In this icy weather it warms the heart to see some colour in the garden. Now in flower is winter jasmine (pictured) but there are also lots of clematis in different hues to brighten the landscape. Clematis cirrhosa has maroon and purple speckled petals, Frances Rivas is widely available and has violet blue flowers and my favourite is Constance, with masses of purply-pink nodding flowers. All are easy to grow and maintain.
